Exploring Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Park, TN

The Native American complex is the largest group of Middle Woodland mounds in the United States, and Sauls’ Mound, the name for the great temple mound is the second highest surviving mound in the US at 72 feet tall.  This video explores almost every single mound in the state park, including the geometric earthworks and the Citadel. Most interesting was the “duck’s nest”, and the cypress swamp along the Forked Deer River, a sharp change in landscape from the open meadows and mounds area.
